Leaking valve - advice needed

    Hi
I have a manual central heating valve in my house and every time I turn it from ON to OFF or OFF to ON water squirts out of its stem. When the valve is open or closed there is no leak.

here is the link to the picture of the valve

Is there anything that can be done with it - like a screw that needs tightening or something or I need a new valve. I'm afraid to touch it now just in case it will start leaking and won't stop.

If I need a new valve, can anybody tell me how much is it going to cost me to get it replaced ?

    thanks

I cant see the picture you linked to but if its a ball valve where you turn a handle 90 degrees between off and on then theres not much that can be done. If its a gate valve there you turn it a few times to close then theres a nut under the handle on the valve stem that can be tightened a little to squeeze the seal a bit more. If it doesnt seal then you need a new valve.

thanks for your reply. Yes it is a ball valve. I might look into getting it replaced with motorised one. Any idea how much to get one installed ?

None, sorry. I bought one myself a few years ago and spent about €60 on it. Put it in myself.

I was thinking that myself as I'm pretty good with DIY but I need to look into what's involved in it and what problems I might run into before I start...
