cows backing up onto cubicle

all our cows are backing up on the cubicles and shi#ing all over the mats. was thinking of running a bar along the top of the cubicles to stop them. any ideas on how far out from the wall to put the bar and whats the best way to fix it to the cubicles

Pipe clamps will do your job. One one each cubicle and the breast bar passes through them, all bolted down to prevent movement.
This also allows to move them in/out from the wall to get best results. I'd have thought 300mm would be a good start.
Good hardware store or any of the cubicle suppliers will have them.
