Getting a spare Nissan Key Fob (ignition/lock)

The car is a Nissan March, it has a key fob with the key embedded in the fob (its removable if required) the key wasn't required for use until recently,

On the instrument cluster, there is a key symbol that lights up green during and for a short while after ignition, recently it was flashing red and there was even trouble starting the car on one occasion, got a replacement battery for the FOB and all seems well.
You dont actually need the key once the fob is present, the key is like a backup to open the door and turn the ignition as normally you could just turn part of the ignition barrel.

The spare key has no fob, just a key, so that and it being a grey import, suggests there is no immobiliser.
when the spare key is in use it will show the green flashing key symbol/light on the dash, but this would go away. When the battery was a problem in the FOB, using the spare key alone, the Key symbol/light would flash red all the time. Now the battery has been replaced in the fob and used in the car recently, the spare key when used without the fob present creates no problems.
(the spare key is just a key, no battery, fob or immobiliser component in it).

The fob itself is standard enough sized but I couldnt see one online, not an exact copy or even close, would it be possible to use a generic fob to start the ignition as I have a spare fob for another older car alarm, could this be programmed or is it a different kettle of fish being an alarm fob, this fob which belonged to another car was only for the alarm/central locking and the immobiliser component was contained within the key which was seperate.
Or do I need (which I suspect is the case) to go and get a specific Nissan or specific generic fob capable of interacting with the ignition.

If so? where? and any ideas how much? Its not urgent, its just for the convenience.

As it's a Jap import you're right. There shouldn't be an immobiliser.
What you have sounds slightly similar in operation to Renault's key-card which only needs to be 'near' the car to allow it to be started.
It would be different to a normal Alarm Fob so I'd imagine it might be hard to find a replacement.
There is a Uk micra forum, try searching/putting in a query there.
