Milkrounds are here again for training contracts. Can anyone else hardly contain their joy at the thought of finishing one million tedious application forms?

Having successfully received a training contract last year I wish everyone all the best. It is probably one of the most mentally and physically draining 6 weeks you will ever experience but if you stay positive and persevere you will be successful :)

Those applications were soul destroying!! Anybody heard anything from Hayes yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

Haven't heard a thing from Hayes.

Does anyone know anything about the length of the "recent piece of writing" Philip Lee are looking for?

    This

It's a really heartbreaking tunnel but there is usually light at the end, it only takes one firm to like you

Can anybody recall hearing roughly what proportion of applications get called for group interviews?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 660 ✭✭✭dashdoll

I put a serious amount of effort into these applications this year and will be devastated if I don't get an interview or two at least.

Flew in from holidays last night to my first PFO from AC......lovely!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭notabasicb

This is my first time through the whole process.

Is there any rule of thumb of how long it takes firms get back to you when the interviews are scheduled for end of Nov? I was surprised how quick Arthur Cox was!

Best of luck to everyone going through the process!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

Arthur Cox is quick because they do group interviews before individual interviews. I'd give the rest two weeks or so.

got a fairly quick PFO from AC - I thought I had a decent enough cv to get a group interview!! first class honours and university scholar twice with a bit of legal experience (and cv format nice/error free).

extra cirriculars could be better (although i was co-founder of a society in college and did FLAC etc) but i thought i would get a group interview

    disappointing :(

From the sounds of it, it's not your CV, it's your cover letter. CV alone isn't enough - not even one as good as yours. Although get some extracurriculars that aren't law based, maybe an interesting hobby!

Wondering if anyone has heard from any of the other firms yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭sunshine and showers

No and we probably won't until next week at the earliest. Not panic stations yet!

    Are you in UCD/TCD/UCC?

Alright lads, anyone roughly know when we should except interviews/rejection emails from the likes of Frys, McCann Fitz and A&L?

You'll drive yourself crazy trying to look at what you have / don't have when it comes to these applications. You can rest assured they've seen every possible achievement before so there really is nothing that guarantees you an interview. As scary as it is to think about, a lot of it is luck and individual taste when it comes to getting the nod

Can I ask why you ask?

Got another internship pfo today, but not from one of the big five

Wonder will we hear anything this week from any of the other firms?

Would like to hear back asap either way as it's such a long process. Need to make some big decisions about keeping going (ie. repeating) with the fe1s or not if I've no prospect of a traineeship. #stress!

Sorry to hear that dashdoll! Hopefully we'll hear from most of the rest this week and put us out of our misery. Did they email or post a letter? So far, only heard from AC and LK Shields.

Yeah, would be great to hear back either way this week.

I got an email this morning.

Do you mind me asking when you heard from LKS? I haven't heard anything from them yet.

I'll keep you posted if and when I hear from any of the other firms.

I got called last week for interview, don't really know anybody else doing the milkrounds so not sure if they're still contacting people either way!

Hi Lily Belle, just wondering when you have your interview for LK Shields?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

When did people get calls re Dillon Eustace Interviews?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 princesspirate

I saw above in the thread that someone received a negative response today, I am not sure about interviews. Sorry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 grin123

I just got a call from Dillon Eustace offering me an interview for November 26th just after I posted that

That is excellent! I only applied to a few so waiting to hear back from those, it is nerve wracking!

Yup it really is. This thread is great though. Hopefully we all get something!!

Weird I haven't heard anything from DE either way.

Had my AC group interview earlier on. Hard to know how it went, everyone seemed pretty equal and had clearly read a few newspapers before going in!

Probably good that you haven't heard back as I imagine they probably sent all the PFOs this morning when I got mine!

Has anyone heard from any other firms yet apart from AC, DE and LKS?

Hopefully! I hope my writing wasn't illegible or anything.

Nope no one else so far and I know a few people who've applied for all of them. Judging by threads from previous years, AC, DE and LKS always seem to be first, with A&L and WF following.

What where the topics they put for discussion in the interview?

We introduced ourselves first and then had an ice breaker question (know your favourite movie/band/dinner guest etc). Then 2 current affairs questions (read the newspapers and you'll be fine) and a really random question at the end that was like something you'd see as a leaving cert essay title.

Maybe it's me being selfish but I can never understand why people announce stuff like this to their direct competitors

Get a grip, it's hardly giving the game away, you still have to go in there and impress even if you knew the questions (which you dont because they change every time)

I was on this thread a lot last year when I was going through this process and it really helped me deal with the nerves / impatience of the process. It really is a valuable source so long as people continue to share their experiences

I figured it was still an improvement on being told to get a grip. I hope you weren't as defensive in your group interviews for people with different opinions than yourself!

In online forums, people are partial to using a different tone to that which they would use in a job interview

Also, I felt it was necessary to argue strongly the point you were trying to make, which is potentially detrimental and served no purpose to the thread other than to undermine it

I do disagree, although I did qualify my post by saying maybe it is me being selfish.

My own view is that by telling your competitors the questions you were asked, it gives them an advantage, simply because they can be more prepared. In one way, its great for the people following, on the other hand, I would not be happy if someone from my group interview was telling everyone else what happened in it, which may give them the slight edge.

As I said, its just something I can never understand. This thread has a purpose, to tell people how they did in the milkrounds and who is offering and who is sending PFOs. The rest should be on merit, not on hints and tips, but hey, that's only my view.

There hasn't been one specific listing of a question given at interview, and even if there was, they change them every interview. People outlining the structure of the interview is helpful, but in no way unfairly so. Also, this is not a private forum, anyone who has an interview may access this information via a simple Google search, and candidates are encouraged to research group interview tips and AC even provide some on their website.

I understand where you are coming from in theory, but I can assure you it does not apply to this thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,632 ✭✭✭NoQuarter

I just think an advantage can be gained by some posts. I accept they mix it up, but still, an advantage could be enough to change the successful candidates in one or two cases.

I also accept they give out tips for interviews. Either way, I will always find it strange but I can see that some people dont.

This is a public forum, easily accessible to anyone who has an interview via Google, in some ways you could say it evens up the field because some of the candidates will have had friends / class mates doing the interviews who will have provided them with even greater info. Details are going to emerge regardless, it is not a perfect process I'm afraid

Exactly. I really didn't think I was revealing anything more than what I had picked up on by reading previous threads and talking to friends but lets move on lads shall we :)

Me too Dashdoll, third year in a row being rejected by them! Already disheartened by the entire process and it's only PFO number one. Going to be a rough few weeks!
