Here is a razor which was a little mistery for me. If you look at the tang you'll see two straight razors and just few words "Trade Mark" and "Made in Germany". No maker's name, no Solingen, just "Made in Germany".

I bought it in a lot with few other razors and after inspection i've noticed that i have a little gem in my hands. The blade is very well made. There's no grinding marks, it is fairly straight and it has beautiful worked spine. Of course it was badly pitted and scales were cracked but i can do something with it

I thought that this razor will remain mystery since there was so many small companies making razors in Germany in nineteen and twenty century and often we can't find any informations about them. But i was looking for informations about different razor on the internet the other day and bingo:




I had a maker's name. That's something. Wolferts & Co, located in Solingen- Landwehr between 1902 and 1920. Brand names: Wolfius and Hygiea.

I've made three sets of scales for that razor.
First, i planned to make transculent, plexiglass scales with makers mark- two crossed razors engraved. But my engraving skills are rather poor and i was not happy with result.
Then i've made second set of scales- bog oak and acrylic wedge. But i had a slight problem with finishing wood with danish oil. I thought i'll go crazy.
Last attempt, successful. Streaked horn scales and wedge, nickel-silver pins and stainless steel washers.
