Solo Holiday in Morocco

I am thinking on going an a solo holiday to surf in Marocco next month using this company www.morocsurf.com (which has very good reviews) but my friends have told me to avoid the place and my sister said her BF went there and didn't enjoy the trip.

I have been emailing the company and they have told me there is 10 (out of 24) other solo travelers that week.

I am torn as I have a lot of leave to take before the end of the year and I don't want to sit at home.

    Any advise.

Your friends told you to avoid Morocco? What were their reasons?

I don't surf, and I don't know about the south of the country as I've only been to Tangier, Chefchaouen and Fez, but I liked it very much. You have to accept that Morocco is a different country and different culture - things work differently at times - and you have to take the rough with the smooth, but as far as African countries go, it's very laid back, easy, interesting and still feels exotic.

Some people just feel uncomfortable going somewhere different, somewhere that doesn't match their expectations. But for the experience of surfing somewhere like that? It could be great. On the other hand, if your friends say they didn't like Agadir, perhaps that's because it's a major sea port and I couldn't tell you what that coastline is like. Equally, people didn't seem to like Casablanca a whole lot when I asked them, but loved Essaouira. The advantage of being where that surf place is is having the Atlas mountains on your doorstep.

We went to the Rif mountains up north and they were very nice.

But if it's surfing you want and you don't want the (ever so slight) challenge of exploring a fascinating, different country, then you could go surfing in and around Tarifa in southern Spain which is best accessible via Malaga where you can get a bus to Tarifa and, if you want, you can still get a ferry across to Morocco from Tarifa and explore inland a bit.
