    Hi all,

Hope I am in the right section, my concern is about my best friend. Two years ago she was involved in an accident abroad that claimed the life of her other good friend... since then she has had her ups and downs with very terrifying nightmares and flashbacks.... I thought she was beginning to improve but recently she has had a turn in the wrong direction, she is having panic attacks negative thoughts and even suicidal thoughts, which is obviously concerning...

Any advice on how to help her would be great, she has been talking to a counsellor but wont go to the doctor as she says she doesn't want to be put on anti depressants... Any info or advice on what to do would be great..

She can access a psychologist or psychotherapist qualified to deal with this kind of problem through her GP. She can always say to her GP that she would prefer therapy rather than medication, and she can look at the NICE guidelines for support about recommended treatment.

The sticky, How to find a therapist, might be useful.

Pieta house might be worth ringing or looking up their website, they deal with friends and family of people with suicidal thoughts, not just the person who has them. Worth a look.

This thread is probably more suited to Soc >Personal Issues, so I'll move it over there in case anyone else wants to get involved. Personal Issues charter will apply! JC

Hi maz, there are a couple of threads stickied at the top of the forum that might help you to help your friend.

One is Information for Distressed Posters which has links to services and resources that might help her. You can also have a read of the Personal Issues Charter there are also some links in there that you may find useful.

She is lucky to have you keeping an eye on her. Just by being a friend and listening and being there for her is probably offering her more help than you realise. Don't push her to talk, or force her into anything she's not happy with. Just be there and try steer her in right direction.
