Powerscourt Ridge or Run the Line?

Thinking of doing on of these next month.

Apart from the difference in length, and entry fee, is there much of a difference in them? Is the terrain similar? Would prefer less tarred roads.

They're both great. You won't make a bad choice with either. PCR has no roads at all. RTL crosses one road twice, and has about one hundred meters of road at the start and finish point, which is nothing in the context of the entire race. PCR is wilder, whilst RTL has much more marshals. So that's another potential decision point depending on your preffered style.

PCR will have the IMRA AGM on afterwards, if you've any interest or input into the running of the organisation. There'll be social in a pub in town that evening as well.

I haven't done Powerscourt Ridge, although some Leinster League races cover parts of the route.

I've done RTL and it's great. It was my race highlight of 2013.

    Can't you do both? :p

Thanks for replies. Sounds like effectively no tarred road in either. Did the WW Ultra, which seems to take in a good bit of the PCR route. The wilder the better, so may go with that. Would like to take in both, but based down in Kerry so have to be selective. Would like to hang around for AGM, saw it on IMRA site alright, but not sure I'll be able to with long journey back down to the SW.

There should be one or two more coming up from Munster for the PCR race and AGM, so there should be some possibility of car pooling there.

Did 26km RTL last year great event...
I'm doing my first marathon this year so going to see how I feel after before I decide on RTL this year but great cause.
Going to do a few of the IMRA next year is it a matter of just turning up or do you have to register for them??
Must look up Powerscourt ridge never heard of that one......

Join imra, which can be done on first race. You are then given a number, which you keep for the season. You can also get detailed info on each outing, and pics, and your own form etc. on their website.

Going with PCR, assume it's more of a Walsh type effort than Kanadias?

If the ground is as wet next weekend as this weekend then something extremely grippy would be useful on the long descent from Djouce alright. All depends on your skill levels and balance of course!

I'm like a really fast Rudolf Nureyev!

Thanks, think I'll go with Walsh unless the week is very dry.

So how did you get on at PCR? I did PCR and RTL both for the first time this year. A lot of fun. RTL was more technical terrain-wise than I had expected so I was caught on the hop in road runners a bit (All I own are Walshes and Road Runners, I need to ask Santa for a middle-ground option this year!)

But both great races, really enjoyable.

And I picked up a swish looking bottle of whiskey in the RTL raffle which more than covered my entry fee! Get in!

    After all that I didn't!

The forecast was good and instead of spending all the in a car getting there and back myself and a running partner decided at the last minute to try the Sheeps Head Way instead, which is only an hour away.
