That's a good amount to spend on a first car, keep it for a year or so until you pass your test then get something nicer.

If I was you I would pick up a Toyota Starlet, you should be able to get a decent one for a good bit less than 1300 too.

If well cared for it should be utterly reliable, quite nippy and cheap to run.

Try pick one up for 1000 or so and spend the rest on tax, insurance, servicing etc...

Starlets are taxed as 1.4 though and insurance can be pricey due to age.
    Great car though.

Relatively modern, cheap to tax, cheap to insurance and cheap to run.

1.25 fiesta is always a good bet but a bit cramped inside.
Plenty of Puntos out there for that money and cheap to fix should anything go wrong.

Toyota Corolla would be a decent choice too.

Toyota Yaris. Unbreakable. Cheap to Insure, Tax & good MPG. You'll pay a bit more but will get peace of mind and a Good Resale afterwards, assuming you have all service documentation up to date.

€1300 generally only gets you the worst of them though

Understood, but if you can squeeze a few hundred extra for a good one, you'll get it back when you trade it later. A quick look at DD shows over 25 Yaris' for sale 1999-2003 with asking prices between 1300 and 1600. I am sure you can get them for at least 10% off Asking Price, which is well within the budget.

Its a sellers market for old yariss.
Generally a lot of the ones on donedeal are already sold.
