License question?

I got stopped last night and the gaurd asked me for my license and insurance and told him i didn't have it with me and that it was at home, He was like ok can you produce it asked me my name and etc and then told me he's sending me out a fine for not having it with me and yet he told me to produce it, And i asked him why can you fine me for not having it but yet you told me to produce it and all he said was cause i can? Am i right in saying that he can't send a fine out?

Produce all of your documents at the station. Ask for a receipt. If it goes to court, produce the receipt. From experience, you should be fine.

rules changed. your suppose to have them with you in the car. new card size licence is handy.

It is an offence not to have a drving licence with you when driving. It is a separate offence not to have one at all. He's doing you for the first and if you produce, not for the second.

Driving license can lead to 3 separate offences 1 non production on demand 2 non production within 10 days and 3 not having a license. Of course production within 10 days will mean only 1 offence committed production in court or after 10 days will only lead to 1 and 2.

Just as an aside a driving permit is not a licence and driving with out a fully qualified driver can lead to the above 3 charges.

i would drop in all the bits asap,chances are you wont hear anything
the garda was prob having a bad day god only knows what he had to deal with earlier in the shift.
i have never even heard of anyone getting done for not having it with them that produced it within 10days but as said you are ment to have it with you while driving
