Sky TV/Broadband, Be Warned!

It all started with a Sky rep calling in the evening, talked us in to switching from our Vodafone broadband, saying Sky broadband will be much faster, it wasn't, we actually reconnected Vodafone and kept using it until the last dying minute until the contract was out.

The rep also told us the phone charges for mobile, national and international calls would be cheaper than any other service, my mistake taking him at face value.

Turns out they are actually the most expensive with a 3rd world style 30cent connection fee for calls, so if your call drops due to reception, or if you run off and do a pee and come back re dial, 30cent more goes on the bill.

So a few days ago I turned on my Sky box to see a notice saying the bill was due and they were going to cut service, next day TV gone.

Then the day after, broadband gone, ahhh but they leave the phone connected.

Called sky less than one a4 sheet of calls resulted in a bill of over €120, a previous unpaid bill was over €230.
All these calls could have been made on a Meteor, Three, Vodafone or 02 mobile for a fifth the cost. A bill pay phone.

I refused to pay the charges as I actually can't afford the total right now, it's just not on my debit card, and I was threatened with a debt collection agency and I was then blamed for the high charges for not "Signing up for one of our packages".

There are more honorable upfront and fair mobile phone companies based out of Nigeria.

Do your homework before you switch to sky, with regards to their "Superfast" broadband, in our experience it's full of glitch's, slower than our last provider, you can't use multiple devices, so someone is always forced to shut off their wifi on phone etc, just so someone else can use google?, And it just drop's whenever it wants.

Every speed check ever done was slower than Vodafone, using speedcheck.net it was at it's very best 6.1 with Sky, Vodafone was always over 7, normally 7.1.

Be warned before you get stuck in a contract.

If you'd heeded your own advice you wouldn't be in this position.

Who changes provider based on some BS merchant in a suit knocking on their door in the evening?

Who changes provider based on some BS merchant in a suit knocking on their door in the evening?

Unfortunately a lot of vulnerable people do. That's why these sales reps exist.

Bottom line, don't ever buy anything on your doorstep, anything.
