British Airways will start flying into the heart of London’s financial district later this month with the introduction of new direct flights from Dublin to London City Airport.

This new route extends the choice for customers who are already flying on the airline’s seven times daily Dublin to London Heathrow service.

Commencing on 26 October, the airline will offer a five-a-day service from Dublin to London City Airport using a mix of Embraer 170 and 190 jets.

Have they moved to T5 in Heathrow for Dublin flights yet?

Still in Terminal One. From October 26, 2014 it will be Terminal 5.

Looking at this Monday I see 8 BA and 15 EI on the DUB-LHR route. So 23 in total.

Add to that the DUB-LGW/LCY/STN/SEN/LTN routes as well.
Whats the current count altogether? I heard 90 flights per day between Dublin and all the London airports.
    .........
Well if the non-LHR airports have 2 dozen daily departures then that would add up too approx 45 roundtrips per day = 90 flights!

Great to see competition on London City... its cheap enough now to be the airport of choice flying into London... especially as you're straight into the London Zone system on the DLR so don't have to pay extra to transfer from Stansted, Gatwick etc.

Expensive to fly home from LCY though, still cheaper to do Ryanair from Stansted (even though you then have to pay in £)

Just compared ei and fr there for the 1st of nov. A differene of nearly 300 euros. I don't think they'd be many that could justify that

The EI flights would have to be near to full for that price, so enough people have.

A random sampling from today gives 80 flights between the two cities. That's for Saturday and Sunday morning, so mid-week it could probably be more.

This story about BA flying to London City is rather old news, it's been in the public domain since mid-summer, but they are marketing the new service very heavily from what I can see, unlike Flybe.

What I can tell you is that the maximum number of flights this winter on any given day is as follows (this is on a Monday):

    Dublin-Stansted:
    Ryanair - 8 return flights

    Dublin-Luton:
    Ryanair - 3 return flights

    Dublin-Gatwick:
    Ryanair - 5 return flights
Aer Lingus - 6 return flights

    Dublin-Heathrow:
Aer Lingus - 11 return flights
British Airways - 8 return flights

    Dublin-London City:
    Cityjet - 8 return flights
British Airways - 5 return flights
    Flybe - 4 return flights

    Dublin - Southend
    Flybe - 2 return flights

So that's a maximum of 60 return flights or 120 in total.

Obviously flights differ depending on the day of the week, with London City having more flights on weekdays than weekends for example.

You clearly didn't check very carefully - always better to use "LON" rather than LHR or LGW as that way you get all of the fares for London on either BA or Aer Lingus websites.

There are outbound flights for that date for €41.99 to LGW and return for €76.99 from LGW for EI.

I'd agree that the Heathrow flights are much more expensive - there are obviously very heavy bookings for that date for whatever reason. It's certainly not representative of normal fares on the route. Look at the following Saturday and see the difference.

Dublin to London used to be one of the busiest City to City air routes in the world but I think Rio to Sao Paulo in Brazil holds that title now. Melbourne to Sydney would be up there too and Seoul to some island offshore Jeju I think?

I think that the correct statement is that it is the busiest international city to city route anywhere in the world.

By aircraft movement it has been from time to time. However, Hong Kong to Taipei which has a slightly smaller number of aircraft movements has 3-4 times the number of passengers.
