I can probably guess the answer is no to this one but is it possible to walk in to an optition with a perscription, or do a test, and walk out with first-time lenses the same day? The wearer would have astigmatism also.

Specsavers said it would take approx five days.

    No, I wouldn't think so.

First off the optician will order your trial contacts in to the store. Then they will fit them for you or ask you to fit them yourself. They will then allow you to practice for a short period in store till they are happy you can do it yourself (It can take a bit of time getting used to). Once they are happy that your capable you can order your first proper set if your happy with them.

One note on contacts for astigmatism. If your optician does not already do so, ask them to order in a hand full of different brands and slight variations according to your prescription. I had very high levels of astigmatism in one eye and getting a contact lens to fit just right took a trial of about 6-7 different brands and variations (curvature, thickness... etc) to find one that was OK. This should be free of charge (well it was with Vision Express anyway). Very mild astigmatism shouldn't have much problems.

I guess if for whatever reason you need to get them asap then maybe give ordering them online a shot. Although I wouldn't advise this at the start for many reasons.

Thanks for the info. It was a public performance and she was asked to perform without glasses with one days notice. There's two shows left and then she can get sorted for any future performances.
