USC - Non EEA citizen

    Hi,

I know there have been a lot of USC threads here but I couldn't find any relating to my issue.

My girlfriend is a non-EEA citizen and has a student visa, that allows her to work up to 20 hours a week during study and up to 40 hours on holiday periods.

She just started a minimum wage job(well 8.75 to be exact) and only worked 5 hours this week. (her first week)

She got her payslip and got charged 2.91 USC which I calculated to be the highest band of 7%. I read about it on citizen information but I'm still unsure as to how it's calculated in her case.

Could anyone explain to me if this is a correct charge for her and how it's calculated?

    Thanks in advance

If it is all 7% she is on emergency tax or all her allowances are with another employer. If you have the time to study it you will find all you need on Revenue's site.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

    Thanks,

I just got off the phone with Revenue and they said she shouldn't be paying it at all so I emailed her employer to see what the story is.

It's her first job here so she doesn't have allowances with another employer. Maybe it could be emergency tax or something like that, I'll wait to see what her employer replies to me.

    Thanks for your reply.
