Hope there was'nt any nervous fliers on this Europe Airopost flight which had to turn back to Dublin twice this morning. I think I'd be sh**ing my self at that stage.

I seem to remember Europe Airpost running into problems last month on a Split - Nantes flight last month, then blown out of proportion by the Daily Mail. I presume they got out there in the end on another plane?

Here's the link, they were flown on a different plane this evening. I'm going to ask how 173 passengers boarded a B737-300? Certified to take 149 pax.

Did you make the mistake of accepting media info in regards to aviation?..............................

No, just pointing it out ;) .

Interestingly the Mode-S wasn't reporting altitude, vertical speed or airspeed ( checked my logs too )

F-GZTD did the substitution ( into Dublin as ABR001P and revenue flight as ABR423J around 20:30 ).

The aircraft was fixed and undertook a successful test flight approx 5pm.
Unfortunately passengers refused to board it ... Again ... Hence the replacement 737-700 from CDG.
Problem was with air/ground logic. A switch failed and the aircraft thought it was still on the ground hence the apparent transponder problem.
Funny how the holy joes and priests lacked faith that EI-STA would get them there, 3rd time lucky and all that.

3 flights for the price of one ;) . It's a pity to hear some people's journeys were ruined though. On a less serious side, if there was a problem, it would have been the Father Ted where they're all going to crash all over again.

In fairness... Let's take off our aviation expert / avgeek / plane pervert hats off. For a sec... As Joe public ... If you get up twice and end up back down twice after spending hours upon hours at an airport you'd just want to give up the ghost. I know lots of ACL folks and it's a shame that there will be bad publicity associated with this flight and said company and they have had a bit of a bad run.. But that aside anyone who does travel with them I just hear good things so I'm sure it's just a blip

Not the only time the venerable EI-STA has had a few issues, albeit minor enough in the end.

You can listen back using the link below. The incident is about 20mins in. Something wrong with the brakes.

This seems to be one of the most troublesome planes around, thats 4 incidents now in a short space of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 bernsy

Yeah I wonder is it time to put this plane out to pasture before it ruins the good work and name of Air Contractors. its OK for people in the business to say that this was just a technical problem but once the uneducated public get to hear about it they can cause big problems for the airline.

This is true... but it only takes a couple of incidents such as this in close succession followed by sensationalist newspaper headlines to influence the generally uneducated general public... hopefully this is the end of it in terms of the bad luck recently... they are a very good professional outfit with a serious high focus on maintenance and safety as is only to be expected.

What was the issue with the aborted take off - anyone know ?

    Number 2 brake stuck.

Have a listen to the ATC recording in the link I posted above.

... And again this morning. Another aborted take off. No passengers onboard so daily fail won't be printing any "near death" experiences.

    EI-STA
    AG141J STD0655
    DUB-TFS

    Engine issue.

Thousands of potential airline passenger faced an unknown future as the aircraft they might have been flying on this weekend had an aborted take off from Dublin airport. The aircraft, an Airbus 777 jumbo jet was hurtling down the runway so fast that it might have taken off had it not been for the quick thinking of the balloon pilot operating the pulley system.

Hahaha, worst thing is, the Daily Mail wouldn't be far off. :P

I was on poor old -STA when it returned last summer(2013) on a flight to Dubrovnik so I have a bit of a soft spot for it..but not so much that I'd ever fly on it again:)

If i took that attitude to specific airplanes, i would never go to work :)
