    Hi
My washing machine has been rattling lately. Today it filled with water but just stayed like that. I opened and checked the filter and let all the water drain out,

It wouldn't spin but it sounded like it was. I pulled it out and as I did I saw a circular rubber tube like a fan belt.

Is this rubber to make the drum spin. I presume it is. Secondly would that coming away cause the recent spin cycles to be louder than usual.

If so might get it repaired was going to dump it. Appreciate advice , is it easy to re fit.. Thks

Not sure what to see from that grainy image, but that looks like the drive belt sitting on top of the machine.

It connects motor to the drum pulley at the back (unless there is a belt already there, and that is something else).

If it's stopped turning then it's the drive belt. If it was rattling before the drive belt came off it's a bearing gone in the drum it shouldn't be that hard to repair.
    Whereabouts are you?

meath ....I wonder if the drive belt....being loose....would cause vibration....just before it came off....I put it w machine ...on and it appears to be going through the motions ..no drum spinning ...ps its a haier make!

If it's going without rattling then it must only have been the belt. Is there any way to tension the belt maybe it's worn.

Can you open the door and see if the drum turns by hand, ie spin one of the paddles with your hand. There is no adjustment on these belts, they are a 'stretch' fit.
Sound to me like the drum is seized, ie bearings and seal are gone. Can you see the remnants of any water residue running down the back of the drum from the centre of the large pulley that the drivebelt sits on.?

Ha I can open the door and turn the drum no problem.you can tell by how fast it goes with no resistance that the belt is not present. A guy is calling tomorrow I want him to fit new belt if that is the problem , if not , time for new machine I think. It was only 250 two years ago ....just broke after two yr guarantee ran out!

Should work away again so when the belt is fitted. If the belt you have isn't broken it should be ok to use again. Easy to fit once you know how.;)
But it did come off for a reason, maybe an unbalanced load.
Bearings may also be on the way out if it has got louder on final spin of late.:(
Still, never expect much for €250 anyway......

Thks a lot im hoping that a new belt might just do the trick even for a while.
Yap it seems to have just fallen off , hopefully due to wear! ...it's not broken , your right for 250 I wasn't expecting much!!
I think if. Bearings are going. It's not worth repairing ... Would you agree.
