Looking at buying a 1 year old car or demo model. Just wondering would I get a better deal in December or January?

Depends on what you're after. A lot of 'demo's are ex hire cars.

You won't have garages offloading 151 reg demos in January either, and garages don't tend to reg demos late in the year.

There can be a lot of variables. Usually, the winter months are a good time to close a deal on a new or used convertible. However, for most other types of car, things are less straightforward.

In franchise dealerships in particular, the focus during November and December can be on taking orders for new cars for delivery in Q1 of the next year, so if sales staff have more or less made their sales figures for year or the final quarter by then, it could be difficult to get a used bargain, especially if the used car stock is low.

In non-franchise dealerships, as with the other months of the year, going in as a cash customer with no trade in will enable you to strike the best deal.

I asked a dealer this at the weekend - when is the 'best' time to get a good deal... he reckoned not january as every dealer has a lot of trade in cars coming in to stock.... he suggested april is often a good time to get a good deal or to go for the middle of the year for changing...
