Doing JobBridge. What are my entitlements?

    Hi all,

I'm a 28year old male and I've just recently started a 9 month jobbridge programme and currently live alone. I moved from home to be nearer the office so I'm wondering what my entitlements (other than the 188e + 50e "wage") I might have that could help me with my journey to and from work, my electricity bills, water charges etc.

I know I'm possibly entitled to rent allowance. I applied to be put on the social housing list so that I can then make my rent allowance application but that was 3-4 weeks ago and I've heard nothing back about it bar an acknowledgment that it was received. Other than rent allowance, have I any other entitlements?

I was expecting the household benefits package to be extended to other classes of social welfare recipients in the budget yesterday but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm not particularly struggling at the minute because my, thankfully, family and gf are helping me out in that regard, but I find it ludicrous that I'm expected to work 40 hours a week, pay my tv license, food, electricity, rent, clothes, phone, travel etc. on a budget of 240e. Surely there must be some other aid I can draw on?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

JobBridge entitles you only to the same Social Welfare payment you were on before it commenced, plus the €50 top up. http://www.jobbridge.ie/InternPayment.aspx
The scheme does indeed favour those who already live in high population areas where there would be more JobBridge opportunities over those who have to travel very long distances or relocate.
Your best bet is to try to push the local authority to get your name on the housing list asap.

With rent allowance you need to make sure your landlord accepts it if your currently paying him cash.
