I remember getting the game when it came out and we had out Pentium II 400MHZ and 64MB RAM computer. Game didn't work initially and spent about a week trying to get it working. Finally fixed it via increasing hardware acceleration and then being amazed playing as the Alien or Predator. Good memories.

A classic example of less being more. Barely any plot, pretty perfunctory graphics yet the atmosphere was second to none by dint of elegant game design alone (with the exception of the Alien campaign, which was just bewildering).

There's a lot to be said for these old-school shooters that placed your alone and broadly helpless against the elements. No amount of QTEs, set-pieces or cut-scenes can compensate for the visceral dread experienced by a lack of ammo, a motion tracker going crazy and some smart use of lighting.

I preferred the campaign in this to AVP2 but I thought the multiplayer in that (which people still play) was absolutely hilarious.

Nothing like being a facehugger, jumping at someone and then seeing them freak out and just shoot all over the place while you tap the Taunt button, driving them crazier :pac:

Used to play this online over a 56k, one of my favourite games ever.

I remember being pretty chuffed with myself after finishing the campaigns on the highest difficulty particularly the predator one when you end up having to take on hordes of xenos with only your wrist blades due to running out of everything else :o

Loved this at a LAN - Alien Tag was especially fun and I have fond memories of late nights in Net House with Montel, Shador and co playing this :D Definitely one of the best AvP related games I've ever played.

I neve really played this, but loved AvP2. The wall running was bloody disorienting, but was really well done. Playing as a Predator was absolutely bad ass, and having to bite your way out of some guys chest as the tiny alien was really well done.

Ever play online and some asshat was standing in the middle of a busy area, spinning around while shooting a flamethrower in every direction before dying, and doing the exact same thing again? That was probably me.

Ha, the AvP2 wall-running was quite refined compared to AvP:2000. Still disorienting, but the xenomorph levels in the original could be pretty headache inducing, with the lack of a map making it incredibly difficult to navigate and easy to get lost.

Loved the MP in AvP2 though and little has come close to it since. I'm actually surprised it remains the only game to work the xeno's life-cycle into the gameplay (iirc?), there was nothing funnier than skulking around the maps as a facehugger, waiting for your prey :D

there was an RTS for the Xbox that did the alien lifecycle very well. Aliens had to gather comatose humans and predators to latch facehuggers to, or, send facehuggers out to ambush people, from eggs.
