    Hi All

We have plans for an extension completed and we have been quoted €300 by the architect for the next stage.

He said it involves preparing design drawings for planning permission application along with planning application documents incl. forms/ notices.

The following items are not included but will also required for a planning application.

planning fee to Cork City Council €34-00
    Ordinance Survey Maps €100-00
    Newspaper advert

Is this price fair or is it worth the hassle of going it alone ?

    Thanks
    Barr

unless youve good experience with preparing planning applications, then no its definitely not worth 'going it alone'.

E 300 sounds more than reasonable.

I have edited my op with the details of his quote.

    It's good value for money.

There's nothing to stop you doing it yourself but it can be awkward and his experience at having done it before will allow him to do in a day what you couldn't accomplish in a week. Add to that the fact that every council has a slightly different interpretation of the various bits of "red tape" required. 300 sounds like a good deal particularly when it includes the OS Maps and the Newspaper Ad.

I was incorrect in my original post , the planning fee to Council , Ordinance Survey Maps, newspaper advert are all additional to the €300 quoted.

To be honest it still sounds pretty reasonable.

Have you paid him a lot of money to do the plans so far?

So, all in about €1k for a planning application?
It's quite cheap by Dublin standards if using an officially registered architect or even a registered technician that will have overheads including printing, VAT etc etc

It's not far off a nixer price to be honest.
