    Hello,

    Does anybody know how long you have be off cigarettes for them not to effect your physical performance in sports?

    It depends on too many factors such as how much you smoked, how long for, what you've done in the meantime, your environment etc etc.

    If you've given them up, then the effect of them will impinge on your sporting performance less and less over the next weeks and months but there's no way of giving it a more accurate timeframe than that.

    I've given them up a few times! You won't notice the benefit of giving them up for the same reason Alf gave. You will, however, notice the benefits of giving them up if you go back on them! The postives take a lot longer to come than the negatives.

I feel my lungs are 100% cleared but im wondering if there could be any under lying impedance's that could effect my performance granted how much i smoked etc...

    At this stage, you should be free of most of the effects of the smoking.

    But if you want to, you know, blame a poor performance on it, you'd only be human ;)

    Never noticed any change in taste after giving up cigarettes and the longest I have ever given up was for about 3 years.

    you didnt smoke for 3 years and then returned to them. Why? I'm delighted to be off them, will never go back!

    Gave them up on a whim. Still found I was tempted especially when I was stressed. Had one, one day to calm my nerves and haven't tried to quit since.

    I agree, stress can sometimes give me the urge but in the long run, cigarettes cause more stress rather than relieve it. Give it a go again. You have only one body, take care of it

    Thanks for the encouragement but I need to want to quit. I go through a pack a week, so light enough. I walk to college 5 days a week. 2.5 kilometres each way that would nearly negate bad effects.

    I highly doubt that negates the bad effects tbh. Every cigarette you have shortens your life by 5 1/2mins. Cigarette Smoking is also a factor in lung cancer and your walking won't be assisting with that as much as quitting altogether would imo.

    For what reason won't you quit?

    I actually have none of these things, and rarely drink heavily if at all.. These would likely be higher risk factors for ill health, than an odd cigarette
    There is nothing motivating me to quit, is the simplest answer I can give you to your question.

    I don't smoke or never have but do have sympathy for smokers being told what they should do.

    You could also be stressed off your head, not be sleeping well but sure that's grand!
