Thinking of buying a load of RSJs for a future portal shed. Hoping to buy cheap and in bulk. Where to buy and where to check steel prices on line?

    1,000 ft of 8x5.25 (25 kegs/m).

Any advice on buying lengths of RSJs?

There isnt much too it really. i suppose it depends on your use, if you no what size of shed your going for optimise the lengths so you get the least waste, eg try and get 2 pillars from a length or a pillar and a rafter, u no yourself.

Beware there are a lot of different sizes and thickness's of beam so be careful what u buy, that its fit for use.

Hoping to watch steel prices. What steel index should I look at. I am confused by the great number of indices, currencies etc. is there a convenient euro index that tracks steel price?

I ordered ipe220 shot blast and primed 8.60 per foot incl vat. similar steel to you its approximately 9"x4.5" and bit over 26kg per meter. was actually surprised the bigger steel is not too dear when you are able to build portal frame saving the cost of an upright in middle. very little extra cost for getting it pre shot blast and primed about 50 cent a foot.

Sherlings (limerick) are always very competitive with their prices and good to deal with if you are unsure of sizes or thicknesses

What dimension shed were you building and where did you get the steel?

Can you PM me the contact. What kind of money is it costing you? How much for steel? Erection? Mass concrete walls?

8.60 per foot shot bast and primed incl vat per foot for full lenghts. could be 10 cent out either way. getting cleats with holes cut and base plate and end plates. so all is needed is welding and final spray paint. got qualified welder lined up. erect myself. floor is existing old silage pit. dealt with steel and spares in hacketstown they have website. decent guys will cut angles as well

I was advised by steel merchant to use more concrete to save on steel compared to grant spec.
    3 bay 15.9" x 40"
    Stanchions and rafters: 8'x5.25' 25kg/m

    What do ye think?

The cost difference between 8" X 4 " (ip200) and 9" X 4.5" (ip220) is about a euro a foot and the size difference your talking about is even less so maybe about 50 cent per foot. having said that my steel guy says he has supplied many portals in ip200 at 40' external size. but going heavier doesn't cost much
