Suspicious App - can't uninstall

    Hi,

Been noticing the battery on my HTC one mini had been draining quickly lately. Went through my apps and data and noticed an app called com.android.sound has used 800mb in the last week.

I've looked online and can't find much info about this app but it seems to be a location tracker!! I can't uninstall it in the settings/apps menu and don't really want to wipe my phone if I can avoid it. Any ideas?

That's a system app, you can't and shouldn't install it.

Are you sure? This is an app, not a process.

Actually I'll take that back, I got it confused with another app. My bad.

OP, have you tried Googling it? Can you screenshot the app itself maybe?

I tried. Not many results but I think it could possibly be a malicious app alright.

I am having the same problem with my phone. Can I ask what app you are having the problem with?

This screenshot is what shows in my apps. When I googled it I found this:

    Appreciate any help, thanks.

I don't mind wiping the phone but I just don't want to lose my text messages.

Try App Eater. Be wary of removing system apps (it will list it).

If you want to double check, you can run a malwarebytes scan first.

Text message, what is this 1990?

Anyway if you want to back them up there are tons of apps for it. I use this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore

Just take the file off the phone before you wipe everything.

    Suspicious partner? http://smslocspy-client-1-sms-spy.android.informer.com/

App eater won't eat it but it's not a system app. Gonna wipe the phone, have everything I need backed up. Thanks for all the help everyone.

It's hardly being used by some music streaming service? Play Music /Spotify /TuneIn ?

From the link above it does indeed seem that someone has installed an app on your phone to ping your gps location.

I'd suggest that after you wipe the phone, you set up a pin or pattern lock on it for security.

If you get an unlimited amount of text messages by your provider what's the difference in using them and any other app ? I don't understand your logic.

Joking, but SMS has very limited features compared to things like Whatsapp with group messages, multimedia. I guess it depends on your availability of data/wifi and prevalence of smartphones in your circle of friends.
