Sorry BloodBath, that was a bit lazy alright. I'm looking to build a gaming rig and take advantage of all the steam games on offer. Would gladly welcome any tips or opinions.

I had originally planned on getting a next-gen console but wouldn't mind having a home platform for CAD modelling/study (but can also be done at my work).

I keep weighing the pro's and cons of each consoles and gaming rigs unable to decide.

    Pros for a desktop
More powerful and can do more than just gaming,
    Can upgrade whenever,
    Steam (has me nearly sold)

    Cons for a desktop
    Can get expensive quickly,
Can get bulky when chasing performance,,
No too sure if resale value is anygood on parts/games,
    have to buy an OS.

    Pros for a console:
Reasonable price for gaming with driveclub 399euro,
    Great controller,
Re-sale value is not too bad (going by the experience i had with previous consoles)
    Perfect size,
no need to worry about settings, or cooling.

    Cons for a console:
    Limited to just gaming,
    Expensive games,
    have to pay suscription,
    Not open source,
    cant upgrade,

Just rough list im looking at.

What's your total budget? You should fill out the question list from the sticky or other posts.

You seem to be on the right track anyway. The 970gtx is the way to go for the g-card for that money. The gigabyte gaming g1 gets my vote.

There's no need for 16gb of RAM. 8Gb is still plenty for now.

You could also save money on the CPU and board if needed.

You can use the PS4 or Xbox-one controller with the PC if you want as well.

Thanks for the reply. yes i would like to get the cost down a good bit. 8gb ram it is. could disassemble an old laptop (6 years old) for parts also if compatible. After looking up more about the GTX 970 looks impressive, any particular brand.

Just a few things questions i have.

Should i be concerned with overclocking or would i be better off upgrading the CPU in 3-4 years time.

What budget motherboard should i be aiming for but still allow for future upgraded CPUs/4k/ports in years to come.

Would like to try build something in a small form factor, are these more trickier and hardware limiting. Any thoughts on waiting for an upcoming steam machine era.

    Thanks
