    Hey guys,

Can I just confirm that Aer Lingus have 5 bases in Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Belfast and LGW. I can't seem to find this info on their site but I remember a while back Aer Lingus were looking to base pilots at LHR, is this currently a base for EI ? I also remember talk of LGW no longer being a base, can anyone confirm this ?

    Thank You !

They currently have five bases as you outline above.

Gatwick is to be dropped as a base, and will presumably operate like Heathrow does, with Dublin crews overnighting locally to operate the early morning service to Dublin.

Two crews overnight in London to cover the first two flights out of Heathrow to Dublin each day.

EI have aircraft based at DUB, ORK, SNN, BHD, LGW & LHR. Flight crew and cabin crew are based at each of these stations with the exception of SNN where there are cabin crew only. At LHR, the pilots operate the VS domestics and the cabin crew operate EI mainline services.

Edit: Maybe someone could clarify the situation at LHR? There used to be a group of cabin crew based there but I'm not sure if this remains the case.

As I posted above - the first two early morning LHR/DUB flights (and late night DUB/LHR) are covered by Dublin based aircraft/crew which overnight there.

OP I presume your question is regarding the cadet scheme? As of next year the only flight crew bases will be DUB ORK and BHD. LHR is a Virgin Little Red base (finishing), LGW is also finishing up, SNN is not a base atm except for EI crew on seconent to ACL. Also, initial training is likely to be out of DUB.

I haven't thought that far ahead yet professorplum, that really would be the last thing that would bother me in the unlikely event of me getting on it :D

I'm just trying to get myself up to date about the company's current bases and ops.

    Thanks for all replies.

Ah yes. Fair enough. But where's that positivity gone. What's that 'inspirational' quote I keep seeing - "aim for the moon and even if you miss you'll fall amongst the stars". Which is bullsh1t really when you think about it ;)

It can be worth sifting through the timetable (link at the bottom of the home page) to glean some information about where/when they fly to and from.

Ah professorplum, I have moments when I convince myself I can get on it, then other moments when I realise how crap I am at talking the HR talk I think I'm dreaming. Only time will tell.

Thank you all for the help.

It'll be the Flight Ops guys who decide who gets the jobs. The HR people are there mainly for compliance, so don't worry too much about them.

Having a read of this might help some applicants. Doesn't cover the aptitude/focus/passion/flight part of the competition but does give a brief overview of where the company is going. But I would hope ye all already knew that.

Sounds like you need to get a decent interview book. Get one that not only lists the usual hr questions but more importantly why they are asked and how to prepare a decent answer. Armed with that information it will then no longer be a mystery which should help your performance no end.

If there's one thing that pilots hate, it's the HR talk crap! Avoid it like the plague!
HR muscled in on pilot recruitment 5 or 6 years ago and were quickly dispatched from it for the future as the "quality" of their picks quickly became evident.

I'm scarred to be honest. Twice now I've passed all aptitude tests etc and clearly demonstrated my passion, love and knowledge for aviation and flying in particular only to be told "thanks but no thanks" by the airline in question's HR reps. I though I had it solved after the first time, I changed what I thought needed to be changed the second time but once again the HR stuff was the reason I failed. I'm just gonna have to give AL my best shot and hopefully they don't put as much emphasis on the HR stuff as the previous airlines I applied to.
