I haven't tried COD yet but still prefer the console over PC games.

General. Games for the console are released a lot sooner.

PC gaming is much much better imo. Better graphics, controls and prices are much fairer (cheaper) on pc too! Built my own pc and haven't looked back since.

Not quite. Maybe the odd one or two AAA game is released first on console but most releases are simultaneous across platforms.

OP PC gaming is a whole other beast to console gaming. You will be opening up a whole new world for yourself where you will find the crazy, the weird and the wonderful at your fingertips. There is way more games available on PC and it is way more affordable than console gaming. For example I got shadow of mordor for 20 euro pre order while it was more than 60 on ps4.

Cod is popular on PC but usually only the very latest iteration of it. There is way better games than cod available any way.

Go for it OP you won't look back.

You can check the player numbers for Cod games here.
    http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

All Cod games since MW2 use steamworks so if they are being played with an online steam account its registered on the site above. Black Ops 2 seems the most played.

Build your own PC and you'll never ever play a console again.

    That is all.

Not really. PC version lags online unless its a private game. I only play with one or two friends as a result. Patch due this month will hopefully fix it. Still the standard of play on PC is very poor compared to consoles.

COD is busy enough, I doubt you'll have trouble finding a game. There's plenty of other shooters like Loadout and Planetside 2 that are wholly different experiences for all the right reasons, and free to boot. You'll find PC gaming at least as rich and diverse as consoles.

been looking at adverts but tbh i am unsure what i am looking at. tbh have pumped stupid money into two consoles in the 360 (79) full games downloaded and the xbox one 18 or 19 full release games downloaded.

the accessories for console are stupidly limited i find too.

I play on both, consoles [360 & Wii U] and PC ... honestly, neither platform is better, it depends on what you're into. Any time I see posts on the likes of IGN harping on about "PC master race" I cringe. Reckon most of them are tweaking their medium settings to get up to date games to run, so not any better than console quality really. Who doesn't have a pc these days? of some sort. And it doesn't really have to be a beast to run older games. People argue about console V PC as if it meant something ... you can have both :)

When I want to lounge on the sofa, have a few beers and just play something on the 40" tv, console wins. I know you can hook up your pc to tv now and play games on the big screen, but I prefer to leave them separate. Don't want to have to fight for tv time! Got 2 kids and a missus that likes her soaps and x-factor! :D When I'm console gaming it's more involving, the kids can play and it'll be mostly fun games, like Mario Kart or Rayman legends ... fun, no brainer games.

PC gaming is more something I'll do when I'm up and ready for a few hours straight gaming, I'll play more involving games on there, like the witcher 2, or something like Endless legend [which I have but not started] - I also play a lot of Hearthstone on PC - don't really do mobas or the like, but PC would be better for your online multi-play no doubt.

Well your first mistake was reading anything on IGN. It's absolute muck.
People argue about console V PC as if it meant something ... you can have both :)

Maybe you can. But not everyone can.
When you're on a limited budget it's a good idea to look at all your options and pick the best one.
In a very straightforward and literal sense, the PC is the best platform. That doesn't mean it would suit everyone but everything being equal it's better by virtually every metric.

If you have friends who have consoles then it might suit you to get one. Or if the exclusives are important enough to you it might suit you. I'm sure there's lots of other reasons to get one.
But being better at playing games isn't one of them.

It's a really simple decision as far as I'm concerned - the default choice is PC. You only get something else instead if there's a specific reason why (such as the reasons mentioned above).

I can see in near future a lot of Xbox one on adverts with "No games, but comes with account that has 20 games on it..." In fairness, that account worth feck all to another person, when they got their own accounts and it opens a huge can of worms with account transfer and personal details.
Here comes the beauty of PC gaming and its digital game distribution. I have my Steam account for so long, that it sow 3 generation of consoles. I still got those games that were on launch on my account and I used that account for 10 years on 3 different PCs. And guess what, I will still be using same account in 10 years from now and still have my HL2 on it.
Lets bring GoG.com in to this. You can play even older classics on same PC at this day. Theme hospital or Stronghold anyone?

Pc gaming is great and it gets better with each day to be one. It has great exclusives, hardware is cheaper and lasts WAY longer then it used to, Steam big picture and high controller support, Dirt cheap game prices, STEAM!!!

I still got Ps4/Ps3/Wii U, but I see them more of an support/lazy gaming/exclusive games devices.

I don't know why PC gamers get so touchy when consoles are mentioned. If PC is so superior!

I do both anyway, no real preference.

wow, I didn't realise my post was directly aimed at you! :D

IGN was merely an example, look at ANY PC/gaming site and you'll see the same childish arguments. And I'm talking in general, it is easy have both. You can get a 360 these days for peanuts if you're bothered.

But I am not coming from the 360 I am coming from xbox 1 and they are pricey

as you can see those that do use pc for gaming are passionate about their choice as are console users
All I can say is that you won't regret it and will offer you a new way to game
have a look over here if you want to get a new machine that has good bang for buck value
we can then guide you on what games the pc offers that you won't find on consoles and where to get them cheap

The difference, IMO, between PC and console is enthusiasm.

With a console, you have no worries. Plug and play away. Which is why we(myself) all start off gaming at a young age on them.

With PC, most of the time, you have to know your $hit! System requirements for games, your own specs, your power output, cooling, hardware speeds (Mhz this, Ghz that), peripherals, overclocking etc etc.

I mean, you can buy a pre-built one but they're usually overpriced and outdated tech. What you put in, you reap later. My current PC is 2 years old, still playing new releases at top spec thanks to a nice OC. :pac:

Currently enjoyed 75fps in the Rift :D

You don't need to care about almost all of that unless you're an enthusiast or trying to run games on an ancient/non-gaming PC. The issue is when you're buying a PC first day you need to know something about or get advice about what kind of PC would be decent for gaming. You don't need to do this with consoles. Once you're set up with a gaming PC though you won't have to think about specs again for years.

I dont like to play sport games (football/ racing/ etc.) or multiplayers like Battlefield on my PC - thats for the console. On the PC i mostly like to play more plodding games like Civilisation, X-Com, etc.

Football games are perfect on the pc these days, as long as you have a joypad. I'm currently playing Fifa with a mate and it's brilliant (but bloody frustrating as i suck at it).

Battlefield is not for the console. PC is where it is at. 64 player madness.

Just to confuse you further if you are interested, try to get something that can be upgraded to support the Oculus Rift when it comes out next year.

Get an Intel i5 4670K ideally (AMD CPUs are cheaper but not as well supported in VR and CPU intensive games)

The graphics card is trickier because whatever you get will only just about be able to cope with a Rift. The New Nvidia GTX980 should be fine but is a crazy price atm. I'm holding out for a 980ti version next year

You could go for an Nvidia GTX970 now and then when the Rift comes out, get another one and SLI them. Dual cards are not usually recommended for VR but Nvidia just announced a new type of SLI mode that is designed specifically for VR. Dual cards can be a pain to keep cool though so normally I'd suggest that you stay away from that.

The other option is AMD graphics cards which are often times a bit cheaper but they havent announced any VR specific features just yet.

I'm reminded of World of Warcraft (best game ever made). Even though you can buy the game in a shop, it still requires a lot of updates, which were tricky to find. Then there were add-ons, which for some reason wouldn't work on my pc. But I can't imagine playing it on a console, since I was using every keyboard key and then combinations of keys for more options.

One could easily spend 10 hours a day in WOW, so best to avoid if you have a significant other, and especially if you have kids.

As regards building a PC, it helps if you have friends that can help and advise.
