Anyone have a Billion 7800N modem or any idea what I might do about this ?

I have a Billion 7800n for 3 years now and it was going great. I had it plugged out for a while however and when I turned it back on yesterday all the wifi configuration menus have completely disappeared when I log in to the modem.
It hasn't got damaged at all, I have updated the software in case that would help and done many restarts all to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might get it back running ?

Just so you know what I'm talking about this is a screen shot of the modem page, on mine the WLAN section has disappeared along with every reference to wireless throughout the many pages of the login area.

Do you still have the advanced tab?

Yes I do have the advanced tab, but no wlan settings anywhere within it.

I don't know anything about that particular modem but most modems have a pin hole where if you stick in a pin for a few seconds it will reset it to factory default settings.

Thanks ElNino, I've tried that too and no luck. The wifi and wlan settings have all just disappeared. I've googled it and it seems I'm not alone. I haven't come across anyone who has managed to recover the settings though and fix it.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions please pass then on.

Can you get to a menu to flash the firmware, if you can go to their website and find the latest version and flash it. It can sometimes bring a router back to life. If not it could be bricked, time to buy a new one if that's the case

I have flashed new firmware and still nothing, no sign of the settings coming back. A great shame as it cost a small fortune, well around 120 euro, and typically it's just out of warranty.

    Oh well.

If you have one of these modems it seems they have a tendancy to lose their settings if they're left unplugged or switched off for a while. Beware.

This is the norm for POS routers, the likes of Belkin, Dlink, Tp-Link, Edimax, Linksys (went down hill when Cisco bought them and now owned by Belkin) and a few other crap brands. Not sure if Billion should be in that category, but I've seen quite a few posts here suggesting them as a decent router but could never understand why they were so expensive.

Try contacting the manufacturer about the warranty, you never know, they might just replace it, I got a hard drive out of western digital after 5 yrs, you just never know.

You never know it right, they may be even aware of the issue and help you out?

I'll get to onto them tomorrow. It's definitely too expensive to have it roll over and bum out so quickly. Very disappointing stuff so far. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow saying they fixed it over the phone. No harm hoping. Thanks for the replies.☺

Also, most routers have a hard reset and a soft reset from menu/push button. On Linksys the hard reset is known as a 30-30-30 reset. This can sometimes bring them back to life. Ask the manufacturer of there is a special method for hard reset

Thanks Mayo Yid. I got onto Billion today, they asked for the system log off the modem so the verdict was is that the wireless is broken beyond repair.
No chance of any repair or replacement add it's not under warranty any longer.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions anyway here.

On some routers the wireless functionality is provided by a mini PCIe card in a socket on the main router board, so if you can open up the case you could try removing and reseating it, or if that fails trying to find an exact replacement. Often they're just standard cards.

I would love to try that but I'm afraid it would be right out of the ball park of my abilities. I wouldn't have a clue.

Open it and post a picture of the board

If you can replace laptop ram you can do this (if it has a daughterboard).

I'd reflash it, if that doesnt work try a new chip if possible, and after that its tie to buy a new unit.

Here's a pic of the main board of a 7800DX. The 7800N should be very similar.

There's a mini-PCI wifi card in there. (Not Mini PCIE as the label suggests). Something with the same (or similar) chipset should work fine.

OP, if you want to open up the case of yours, snap a photo and post it here, we could verify it's the same setup.
If so, I could send you a mini-PCI card if you want. I know I have a bunch of them around somewhere, but I'd need to see if they're Wireless-N and based off of a similar chipset.
