    Anyone watching the boxing tonight.

Should be another easy night for AJ.

The over hyped, over rated Lee Selby is fighting an IBF eliminator. He should also have a fairly straight forward night.

John Joe Nevin is also back in action in the US later tonight

Didn't realise Nevin was back. Hopefully he can stay busy for a few months and get some momentum going.

Same here but we will learn nothing about him in his next 2 fights. He is a class above these guys he is fighting at the moment

Yeah but he hasn't been boxing that long can't put move him up to quickly. Needs to learn his pro ring craft

Cracking first round here between Boylan and Goodjohn - two fighters I never heard of, but well matched.

This is a really good scrap.

That's a fair point but I think he is reaðy for the step up. I think he needs to get someone like Carlos Takam or Tony Thompson early next year (zero chance of that happening mind)

I agree with efb here, because if you compare both Frank Bruno's and Lennox Lewis's ninth opponents to Bakhtov, Joshua definitely got the hardest opponent. I'm not saying he'll win or anything, but if you compare Lennox's amateur experience to Joshua's, the only thing in common they have is the gold medal. Lewis had tonnes more fights for many years from all over the world along with two Olympics, whereas Joshua is a relatively short time boxing despite his success.

He's still learning (and has more to do), but is doing so very impressively. I really enjoy watching him and I think he'll go all the way.

I'll have to bow to your knowledge on the level of competition at this point.

Maybe it's my impatience as I can see him comfortably handling a better class of opponent even at this point in his career.

Have the same belief that he can go a very long way.

Think he'll definitely be stepped up next year. A possible fight with haye has been talked about. David Price would be an ideal fight imo.

I don't think he'll be going near Haye any time soon, but Price and himself could happen in the next 18 months or so.

Hearn will keep him a million miles from Haye (& rightly so) Price would only be an option IMO if he had a world title.

I can see Hearn having him wasting his time against fringe top 15 fighters for the next year to 18 months (maybe get a European belt) & then once Klitscho rides off into the sunset look to take out an easy World belt.

He is Hearn's golden goose and he won't kill him for one golden egg.

Very entertaining fight that (Goodjohn / Boylan). Even though he lost I think Boylan will be in a lot of good fights with his style.

I agree but Hearn was talking during the week about a possible fight with Haye in a stadium.

Has Haye even confirmed that he's returning?

Very good fight. Can't argue with the scorecards. Did themselves so harm at all.

I saw something recently that he has confirmed he is returning but I can't remember any specific date

Not as enthused by Selby as the commentators. He is getting caught way too often for my liking

    Are you serious?

I totally disagreed with your opening post on Selby being overrated and I disagree even more with that statement. His defense is beautiful, but obviously you're going to get hit every now and again. As Ricky Hatton used to say "it's not a tickling contest".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35,514 ✭✭✭✭efb

He's landed 38 punches- not that many

Selby needs to step this up

That was lovely stuff from Selby.

Good finish. He won't be able for Frampton I think.

    Joshua how many rounds?

I thought that was an excellent performance. I wasn't one bit bothered by whether he stopped him or not, I could look at his smooth boxing all night long.

    I reckon he'd take Gradovich.

The better the opponent the better Selby will be, he'll be a world champion, he has all the attributes.

I do have a very firm view of Selby & we will see once he steps up to world level (Brunkers IBF ranking was a joke) I will have no issues admitting I'm wrong (if he loses to Gradovich but performs well I'll change my view)

I do think he gets hit too often, his pawing with the left hand while trying to load up to get a bit of power will get him ko'ed.

Who exactly are you comparing him to?

Floyd Mayweather got hit over 220 times against a slugger like Maidana and nobody complains about his defense.

I don't think Price would last more than a couple of rounds with Joshua.

Taking clean punches from a fairly ordinary opponent tonight, not comparing him to anyone, simply what I observed tonight.

I'm clearly in the minority on Selby & I am no expert, just my opinion & I may well be proven wrong.

Joshua would KO Fury right now imo.
