    Warranty is only 90 days.

Have three of these in the extended family

All three take hours to charge, way more than an iPad

And each one has a dodgy USB port, very finicky

Good screen though, but overall I'd steer clear

Yea, this is getting to be a very common problem with this model.

I have had a refurb model the last 9 months, no issues with the USB port. Its a solid tablet, mainly because google releases decent software updates. The 1gb of RAM holds it back however, especially with google chrome and other intensive apps. Now that there are budget tablets coming with 2gb of ram and intel processors I would hold off (think hudl 2).

USB port is dodgy on 2012 model.

You could buy a charging dock for the 2012 model,it has pogo pins.seeing that its so cheap it would be worth forking out for.I had the official one,but there are other cheaper models out there

The slow charging is related to the USB issue, but it's a cheap and easy fix. Not a reason to stay away.

Have 3 refurbed ones that I bought last christmas for 100 odd each. Kids use them everyday and think they're the bees knees. Never had any issues with them. I'd shop around (Argos UK on eBay + parcel motel etc) for maybe cheaper.

Actually nvm that.. Quick look and its £84 + parcel motel on Argos UK. I'd go for the above no bother.

Its not worth the money, I bought one new for 250 yoyos way back when, laggy idiosyncratic POS, couldn't recommend at any price.

I meant to add the 2013 version is great, my issue is solely with the 2012 Tegra version.

I have the 2013 and had same issue re wonky USB port and then their APPALLING customer service
apart from that it's a good value for money tablet
but keep your receipt!!!!! and your DHL number when you return it

I got a new 2012 nexus 7 from expansys for 99 quid a couple of months back. Was great value at that price, but not sure I'd be running for a refurb.

The wonky USB port is an ongoing theme, I had a galaxy nexus which developed a wonky USB port eons ago, it use to think it was charging and turn the screen on in my pocket caning the battery, and it wouldn't charge half the time it was plugged in.

I have this as well and would advise avoiding it. Hardware is dated and struggles to keep up with most tasks. The performance of mine it outrageously bad, very slow and unresponsive. Tried all sorts of things to speed it up, it helps for a little while and then slows down again.

I'm on mobile at the moment but search the android forum for links and guides. But you can buy the USB port from the likes of Amazon and with the right screwdriver you just switch them.

This tablet is really starting to show its age. Lots of apps don't run smoothly on it anymore.

My guess is that these are all warranty returns for things like the USB issue which have been repaired and are now being dumped sold off for the best price they can hopefully get.

Still use mine every day, not seeing the issues others are having.

What are you trying to run off it?

Nothing special, just the usual internet, e-reader, videos etc. Haven't played games on it in ages. From my research it appears the problem with it is the type of memory they used and how it handles data being written and deleted multiple times very poorly (i.e. Trim). Forever gone helps for a few days then back to normal slowness, tried other stuff like clearing cache but not much effect. I just use it primarily as an e-reader now for books and even changing page a loading dialog comes up for a second or two! Maybe I got unlucky and got a dud?

I read somewhere about anecdotal stories that the very first batches of which mine is part of had dodgy memory chips and subsequent batches used different chips which had no problems?

Wouldn't it help upgrading to KitKat (Android 4.4)? That has TRIM so it should stay fast.

Worth a read for anyone driving an E46 3 Series. http://www.bmdroid.co.nz/

It has been updated since it kitkat was available. Like I said I'm pretty sure it just crappy old slow memory chips that were used in the very first batches that is the problem.

The trim problem was only an issue for those tablets bought/used from launch to November 2012.
It was fixed in an android OS patch in November 2012. Problem doesn't exist in those bought with the newer version of android. When i had a launch model with the problem I was able to fix it up upgrading to latest android version, factory reset and running an app to reset/wipe the trim metadata. Worked fine afterwards. Search the android from on Boards for trim and you'll find posts about it.

Original nexus 7 is not a bad tablet, main problem I'd have with it is the RAM is only 1 gig and you'll notice its slower than the newer model.

At the moment you won't get a better 7" tablet for that price.

Received mine last week, picked it up today (wasn't home at the time of delivery).

Device is in excellent condition, no visible wear & tear, and has clearly been reset to factory default. Comes with genuine Asus EU-style charger and aftermarket (but decent) UK/Ireland charger. It's a German model and seems to have shipped from Paris (how much more European can you get! ;) ). Obviously as it's a tablet this is no big deal (with a laptop it would have been annoying due to the different 'QWERTZ' keyboards the Germans are partial to).

The case was brand new in sealed case, the refurb packaging was not original but very well protected (one of those plastic-wrap stuck to plastic deals inside a huge shipping box). Which was sealed with 'check contents if broken' seals, one of which was broken and then resealed with a "VOID IF BROKEN" seal :)

It seems sound anyway, the much faulted micro-USB connector seems ok, will check for dead pixels etc. If anyone has any questions let me know. I know the deal's gone but perhaps it'll come back.

i had one of these and fixed the usb issue myself. basically just pulled the back off it and pushed the usb connection back into place on the motherboard or whatever the tablet equivalent is. it was very easy to do as the back comes off easily and snaps back in and the connection is easily pushed back in with your hand. no tools required. it has a tendency to come loose over time apparently not through a fault per-say.

im sure if you google it you will find a youtube vid showing you how to fix. should you find you have the problem
