When I put the volume up in my turtle beaches there is significant amount of static, I thought it might just be the turtle beaches but I plugged a pair of beats earbuds in and I got the same result. could a loss wire or out of date drivers cause this (my mobo is a asrock b75 pro 3) or do I need a sound card? Thanks

What you're probably hearing is line noise because one of the amps is being overworked.

Do you find you're having to set the volume on the PC very high to get a reasonable volume?

I have all the volume sliders on the pc at max but the volume slider at half on my turtle beach to get loud enough sound without too much static

Turn the turtle beach to maximum and lower the output on your PC, if its in line controls that resistor is making things worse.

Most likely theres a terrible little preamp on your mobo though, pic up something like a Fiio E10.

Which audio jack are you using?

I have to plug directly into mobo as front jack has awful noise. The case is rubbish to be fair.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I usually put the headphones in the front panels but I'll try the back ones and I'll check out the fiio

Also make sure none of your recording inputs are set to 'listen', if there's no mic plugged in you'll just get static.
