    Hi all,

Battery Light came on for a few seconds this morning coming to work, went off again and then came on again.

Went and checked the voltage and it was about 12 when turned off and 14ish when turned on so I dont think it's the alternator.

Any other possible causes for this?

Didnt get to drive for long after it came on the second time.

Need to drive to limerick from cork this evening and i'm worried i'll be stuck on the road somewhere halfway.:(

    Any advice appreciated

Maybe check the condition of the auxillary drivebelt and tensioner first.

Thanks, I should look for wear on the belt I assume, what do I look for in the tensioner?

With engine off, push down on the belt on its longest run (i.e. the length of belt between two pulleys). if there is poor tension there, i.e. you can flex the belt greater than say 10-20 mm with little effort suspect the tensioner is faulty.

The belt will show signs of wear itself, with cracking and similar wear on it. The tensioners are extremely tight when working right, so any play in them would be suspect. It's all easy enough to see from the front of the car.

Cheers lads. Car finally crapped out today, went into limp mode after losing most of the power. Looks like the alternator is goosed!

Towed to the mechanics so will get a proper diagnosis Monday!

Wheel sensor is giving problems as well so I've a dash like a christmas tree:rolleyes:
