Old interior wall to be slabbed advice

    Hi all,

I am looking for advice please as for I will do this job DIY to keep costs down due to tight budget.

I have an old 2 story cottage about 100 years old, built with solid limestone walls, its the typical cottage of this era, 2 rooms upstairs and 2 downstairs.

I wish to re-slab the downstairs walls with insulated plasterboard 72mm

The walls where previously painted with what looks like an oil paint and had wall paper and then in recent years studding and drying walls were installed, just standard 20mm plasterboard with out any insulation.

I have attached photos of how the walls are now with the drylining removed and would love advice on how to attach new insulated platerboard.

Should i chip away the old plaster and mortar back to the lime stone?
leave it as it is and put up the slabs with adhesive and mushrooms or
put up new studding and attach the new slabs to it.

Thanks for your help and advice.
