Different e-shop region?

Out of interest. I want to buy omega ruby/alpha sapphire from the US e-shop, but I'm already thinking of some problems.

Would it work? I know it works real easy on the PSN but Nintendo isn't good at this e-shop stuff
Would I lose access to my other e-shop stuff?

In short, nope, it won't work

In longer form, yes, it might work, but it'll be a mega pain and you'll need a new Nintendo id linked to your 3ds, or a new 3ds in general. You can't hot swap acounts like you can elsewhere. This means if you've got one 3ds with games already bought digitally you'll lose access to them if you set the 3ds up for a north american account. Easy enough with 2 3ds' but not so much with one

You can't do it, I've a US DS for US releases and a EU one. Pain in the hoop.

No, the only eshop regions you can change to are aus, uk, and european ones which might have some minor differences.
they all have different balances, dependent on the currency used, so you'd have a euro balance, pound balance, and aud balance, and you'd be locked out of those funds if you're in your other region which you have to change from the system settings menu.

But I could change to the australian one and not lose access to my current stuff on the 3DS?

Once it's downloaded you'll always have access to it.
Also if you're not formatting, sure.
