Normally start closing fields this time of the year to have grass for ewes and lambs in march.. I normally graze tight and close.. However this year seems to be a lot of grass in paddocks and cant graze them tight enough, i dont want to delay closing as tempting as it is because i need grass early..so would you close even though there is a good bit of grass in it? Will the grass deteriorate?

The plan here is to close everything here on 1st Nov no matter what

Have 60% closed by November. Close rest as you graze. If some covers on paddocks that were closed first are heavy graze them again

Start Oct 10 here, probably a bit later this year.

Can you run a group after your priority stock to bare down the paddocks or strip graze the stronger paddocks. Is it just sheep you have or have you cattle as well?, if it's just sheep I assume strip grazing would be difficult. If weather conditions allow perhaps try and get an extra day or 12 hrs grazing out of it, force the stock to graze a small bit harder if they are in good condition

The main farms herd will go into the sheds in Nov. Then it's free ball for Reggie's herd

Just sheep and all with ram so need them in flush enough grass so no grazing too tight at the minute.. Will close shortly the way it is.. Even though there is more grass than i like might be a blessing come march when you can never have enough!!

They'd thrive like hell for the summer on grass if you could pull that off.
