Paying too much tax??

    Hi,

I have used numerous tax calculators online for example http://www.deloitte.ie/tc/.

When I input my salary it tells me exactly how much tax I should be paying and how much my net income should be.

However, when I compare how much my actual take home pay is to how much is should be, there is a difference of €58 per month.

Upon closer inspection, I’ve noticed that I am paying more Net Tax (€47 p/m), PRSI (€4) and Universal Social Charge (€7) per month than what shows on these tax calculators.

Can someone tell me the reason for this.

I’ve used several different calculators and they all have the same result.

I’ve just started working since February this year. I was on a contract then got made permanent in June.

Before February, I’ve spent the last 2 years living and working in Australia so would this play a factor?

    Thanks for the help.

Have you checked that you have the correct tax credits on your payslip?

I can double check tomorrow but I believe my tax credits on my payslip is less than on the websites.

    What does this mean?

The tax credits are accumulating each month but still less than what they are on these tax calculators.

The tax credits on my 1st payslip was very small but its building up each month.

How do I know if this is correct amount of tax credits?

Call the revenue and check with them? Look up what they should be first on revenue.ie also, and request a copy of your cert calling out your credits from revenue.

Were you on unemployment benefit this year before you took this job?

If you were on jobseekers benefit ( not allowance) that is taxable, and the revenue may have deducted the relevant amount from your tax credit, which would explain the PAYE but not the PRSI/USC

Best to call them and ask why the discrepancy
