Howdy. I upgraded my ram from 4 to 8gb today. Windows 8.1 system says 8gb installed, 3.95 usable. How can I get 8.1 to use all 8gb ram? The ram sticks are exactly the same, installed in slots 2, 4. MSI bios sees all 8gb.

Did you install the 32 bit version of 8.1?
If so it wont use the 8gb,under 4gb is all 32bit uses.

    Go to misconfig
    Go to Boot Tab
    Go to Advanced options
    Uncheck Maxmem nox

Try slots 1 and 3.The manual will tell you what ones to use for dual channel.Normally its 2 and 4 but worth a go the see if its helps.

Set the volts, speed and timings manually.

Try the new stick on its own and maybe run memtest on it to make sure its not faulty.

Where does it say 3.95gb usable as i'm on win 8.1 pro and cant find whats being used.

Your bios may need to be updated but dont do it until you get help from others as it can bork your motherboard.

Hiya, Iv'e updated the bios, manual says 2 - 4. As for 3.95, under system from the windows control icon thingo ( bottom left corner )

I assumed installing more RAM was a plug and play bizo. Obviously not.
