Hi, two sales agents representing Sse Airtricity knocked at my door and tried to sign me up and switch from prepay power. I Told them that I would think about it, (mainly to get them to leave my home). They asked for my name and I told them.

A few days later I got a leter to say welcome to Airtricity, and rang to tell them I didnt switch. To cut long story short when I called I requested the copy of the contract that I had "signed up" to.

It came in the post today and the two signatures are in the same writing as the sales agents signature.

What can I do about this fraudalent contract?

Im waiting for the sales part of Airtricity to ring me back, they sent me a bill today along with the copy of the signatures, which I might add are Identical to the sales agents signature.

Speak to the guards. Forgery is a serious criminal offence.

Absolutely, forget Airtricity. Go straight to your local garda station and make a complaint.

I would agree ... they deserve a good kick for doing this. If several people have been victims of the same guy, it is important the people report it so that he is be punished and the company is held accountable if their staff is lacking proper training and supervision.

It didn't go as far but 2 years ago I also had a troubling experience with their sales team.

I live in GCD in blocks of apartment largely populated by foreign nationals who would be likely to have arrived to Ireland recently and not know much about electricity companies in Ireland (and I do have a French accent myself - won't go away even after 10 years here :-)).

Their sales guys introduced themselves as "from the electricity company to update your account and make sure you are getting the lowest rate". They had everything pre-filled and where just trying to get my signature. Even when I told them I didn't want to change supplier and sign-up for a one year contract, they basically kept saying there would be no change for me, just a lower rate. It took at least 5 minutes of me declining for them to give-up and they never really admitted they where trying to get me to switch supplier.

They often turn up on the doorstep on winter evenings wearing corporate fleeces, they are usually better insulated against the cold weather than you (since you're wearing indoor clothes) so sometimes you'll feel sorry for them and ask them in - big mistake. As long as they are outside and you are inside, you're in control, let them in and they have the upper hand.
