smoke getting into attic

Recently had a new fireplace installed where there wasnt one before, it had been boarded up. The back boiler was removed but theres still a pipe running up to the attic from inside the chimney. When the fire is lit some smoke seems to be macking its way up the gap that the pipes travels through and ending up in attic.

To fix this is it a matter of removing the pipe and sealing the hole somehow?

This is not good. The chimney flu should be sealed and not allow smoke to escape.

The brick surrounding the flu should be sealed and not allow smoke to escape.

You need to get the person who performed the work to return and remedy.
