want to attach a swinging barrier to a old railway line pillar top and bottom
Heavy duty as pressure from feeding
. Looking for better ideas than normal sliding bolt

Either weld it up solid or weld one side and drill and bolt the other

sorry should have been more clear .
one side hinging as normal .
other side is the one that's giving me grief .
what's on it /replacing at the moment are two bars slotting into a holder and rebar going down through both but its a pain to open quickly /close.

I seen this on a farm where the farmers son is a fabricator. They have every feed barrier in the place fitted like this.
Say your gate is made of 2" tube. Cut a one foot section out of the centre of the vertical tubing at the latch end of the gate and fix this section directly to the pillar by either bolting or welding.
Cut a piece of 1 1/2" tube the height of the gate and use this as a pin to go through the existing vertical piece of the gate and the section of pipe fixed to the pillar.
Hope i explained it ok. The gate cannot ever sag and no animal will ever open it

Doesn't look to strong but like the idea might have a go at making a heavier one!!!!

They are a nice idea. I like the hole in the catch, presumably for a lynch pin or Bolt to secure it.
A tramp of a cow with horns could learn to open it otherwise !
