God still gives financial breakthroughs today ..apparently

I got 2 leaflets through the door the other day from a church calling itself winners chapel , with "God Still gives Financial Breakthroughs today" written largely on it. And then it tells a little tale of how someone "miraculously" got out of financial difficulties after joining the church. Talk about blatantly preying on people's desperation.

Weirdly the same week I also got 2 fliers through the door from the Free Presbyterian Church of Ireland and they are doing a talk on Monday in Galway. Initially I just saw the Presbyterian and thought it was weird as they wouldn't normally send out stuff like this, but then I noticed the Free Presbyterian on it. On the back of one of the leaflets it mentions "Published by the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster". I wonder how many people who go to the meeting will realise this is the church Paisley founded?

There seems to be more of this sort of leafleting recently, where I am anyway.

This is the 'prosperity gospel' in action. It's such an obvious scam. The way that believers can achieve wealth is by donating a percentage of their income to the church. The only people who get rich from this are the evangalists.

Yes it is an obvious scam, but unfortunately not obvious to everyone.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Sounds like they misinterpreted a headline like "Little interest in organized religion".

I was wondering exactly what the set-up would be.

I remember reading a book when I was young that had this sort of rubbish in it. The book was aimed at children. Even at the time I thought it was ridiculous and totally unrealistic. I cannot remember the specifics but someone would need money for something and then suddenly they would get the amount they needed in some totally unrealistic scenario. As far as I can remember it even involved people giving money away recklessly, but it would all be ok in the end as God would provide. I wonder was it a book that was deliberately written and distributed by evangelists? I cannot remember where I got it. Anyway this literature by the church that came through the door reminded me of it.
