Vodafone - High pings/lag

Hey all, so the last while I have been experiencing pretty bad lag on occasions with Vodafone. I ran a UO trace and found that my pings on some hops were well over 100ms.

I can post up the trace here if someone with a bit more technical nous than me can read it but what Im asking is there anything I can do myself to improve it?

I rang Vodafone support and they were no help what so ever. I actually felt I knew more about the tech side of things than he did. He was telling me that Ping is not important even though I told him I use the Xbox etc.

He ended up sending out a replacement router which I knew was a waste of time. Anyone have a good knowledge of reading UO traces to see where exactly its going wrong?

EDIT: I should also mention that Im getting bouts of 2-3% packet loss on some hops.

As far as I know ping is relative to your distance and connection to your nearest exchange point/server so unless you want to relocate closer to wherever it is, probably not much can be done. You should try to ask for a manager or anyone who was that guys superior and explain the issue and his lack of understanding simple issues he should already know about. Online gaming is a massively popular hobby around the world now, ISPs should be trying to stay relevant to appeal to these kinds of users. Makes me wonder why none of the Irish ISPs don't actually do at least small campaigns about how their services are better for gaming etc. and include relevant details like ping.

    You're off the mark there.

Ping = time it takes to get to the other end(usually a server) and back to you. This is a sum of the delay of all the equipment between you and the server.

    Wifi(that isnt struggling) - 1-5ms
Modem to DSLAM -1-10ms (more like one if you're on VDSL)
DSLAM to edge of network - ?
Edge of network to server - ?

Those last are the main things.

BTW UO trace is just a rebranded tracert/ping test, you can ping or trace any host you like from command line.

Run these and post the results, that'll give us an idea:
    http://speedtest.vodafone.ie/
    then
speedtest.net and pick a Dublin server
    then
speedtest.net and try a few servers in france(most likely where the EA data center is).

Also, do you know what exchange you're off?
