I'm 17 did my theory about 2 months and hoping to get a car soon (probably not right away but soon!) I've been picking between a bike or a car and car seems more practical..
Any suggestions on good first bangers?(I mean cars..) I realise its nearly bloody impossible to get insured on a car but I was hoping to buy it under my dads name and get insured as a second driver (dads 50 odd and never had a claim..)

A heard that most cars someone of my age could actually afford are going to be classified as boy racer cars so most insurance companies won't touch them (friend got a 06 golf slightly modified from previous owner and its around 3 grand a year to insure!)

I had thought of getting something bigger (e.g a merc so I could pay the higher road tax and fuel cost but I'd have a chance of getting insured because its not what you see lads in hoodies and tucked trousers into socks driving) well thats what my uncle suggested if it works out ok financially.. ie I save money overall..

Any suggestions? I've one lesson done so far and I'm lined up for a few soon!
Cheers for the help lads and ladies!

(this is on my dads account too, I didn't realise!)

Your looking at 2-3k for your age and first time insurance. I would go Japanese. At your age anything over about 1.6 will be insane insurance cost.
