Just watched a presentation on going vegan. It makes sense to try it. Anyone have experiences to share?

I would rather eat a bullet with my face then say no to meat, eggs and dairy.

I knew a vegan lad in school. He never stopped farting.

    He seemed happy enough though.

    Far, far too much hassle.

Plus, missing out on so much tasty food.

You can't even have most wines. Or honey. No thanks!

I'm not sure what good eating a bullet would do you before you stop eating meat, eggs and dairy.

Yes, hen period and bee vomit, why is it acceptable to eat a cow and not a dog?

Who said it's not acceptable to eat a dog? There are lots of cultures who eat dogs without any bother.

(However, it's probably because, pound for pound, it's more cost effective to raise a cow for food)

Which all just amount to different combinations of elements, if you want to go down that road

It can be difficult if you like travelling or eating out. I'm a vegetarian but I've always had at least one option, even if it isn't too interesting. Vegans don't even have that a lot of the time. Respect for anyone who pulls it off though.

ok then, how is it acceptable to eat another species and drink its milk, biology designed for its own and not humans.

Cows and pigs are plant based foods too, they eat the plants and then we eat them!

Well, cows and pigs should not have made themselves so tasty. Think of it like this, the more cows we eat the less methane gas polluting the earth.

Biology isn't a sentient being that designs things.

Why isn't it acceptable to eat other species? That's how life works. I mean this in the nicest possible way, but do you know anything about biology, chemistry or evolution?

Seems you're not really grasping that humans aren't the centre of the universe.

    So, so tasty!

They're made of the exact same stuff as animals. And rocks. And air. If you're going to get all upset about eating animals it's hypocritical not to do the same for plants

Humans have had a symbiotic relationship with dogs for tens of thousands of years. That's why it might be weird for certain cultures to eat them. They are our companions, not food.

Plants do not have the same nervous system or feelings as mammals and animals.

If it bothers you, go vegan.

So long as the animals I eat are treated well, and killed quickly/painlessly. I'm happy and will continue to eat them.

There does need to be more legislation regarding animal welfare though.

Most wines and beers are refined and filtered with fish bones.

Isinglass is actually derived from fish bladders. It's used in refining some wines but most use egg based products or milk protein (OK for lacto-ovo vegetarians, not for vegans) or non-animal derived products (fine for everyone). A quick Google reveals that Isinglass seems to be mainly used in Kosher wines so unless you're Jewish or invited to a Passover meal you should be safe enough.

Beer on the other hand..most mass produced beers sold here use isinglass. Including Guinness.
