Can anyone tell me the justification of lads giving big money for commercial bulls and heifers? Mart today 410kg Feb heifer would say a wonderful show calf 1555 and a 280kg went something crazy as for the winter fair commercial bulls go crazy money?

i went to cootehill last night for the show and sale. None of the show animals made anything extra ordinary imo. I went to a suckler clearance today however and seen springers selling to 2300, now thats just stupidity.

wait till the weather turns and cattle have to be housed, all the grass is gone, lads should be cooling the jets then, my father always told me famers are funny people, when cattle are dear they all want them, when theyre cheap they dont and theyll give them away, im still young and have seen this scenario loads of times already

Some of these are bought on behalf of the seller by a neighbour etc. so that prize money can be claimed and the animal sold back to the seller privately. Have a look at some of the pedigree show and sales at the big prices being paid too, sometimes it's only the other breeders that are bidding so they can all go home convinced that they have great cattle:P

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
