Tips and ideas for renovating a house

    Hi All,

    We are moving into a new house (new to us but 14yrs old) soon and we will be looking to do some work on it over the next year. I would be relatively handy with DIY but I find it very time consuming researching different products and deals etc. Are there any products or materials you have used that save you money, look nice, energy efficient?

    I am looking for ideas on the following;

    Windows- Possibly only upgrading the glass

    Front Door- Good quality composite door?

    Will be tiling ensuit and bathroom, possibly all floor and walls (best colour or type to keep clean)

    Solar panels

    Attic insulation - Spray? Fibreglass?

    Air vents

    Blocking up chimney

    Garden- Easy to keep plants, minimum maintenance?

    Energy bulbs

    Kitchen- Going to paint first the decide if needs changing

    Basically I'll be doing quite a bit of work and obviously want to futureproof too, so all tips and ideas welcome. Also if you know good quality tradesmen in Lucan or surrounding area let me know.

    Thanks for your time
