    Hi all,

I'm looking to change my 2010 A3 for a new Audi (not interested in anything else). I have the cash so I was looking at the A5 sportback 3.0TDI 245BHP Quattro S-Tronic Sline. But there's a few issues with this choice:

1 - A few people have said for that price I should be looking at the A7, as there's a new Ultra model out.

2 - The 3.0TDI has very bad second hand value and I'll loose a lot when trading in again.

    3 - There's a 2.0TDI 177BHP A5 which is €10k cheaper than the 3.0TDI with exact same spec

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

    Cheers

Would you not go for a petrol model?

"Ulltra" specification is available for A4, A5, and A6:
    https://www.audi.co.uk/audi-innovation/our-technologies/ultra.html

    No mention of A7.

I'm not an Audi expert. Generally, for large luxury/premium cars, diesel is generally the safer bet for residuals and resale. However, that might be less true for certain "niche" cars like the A7 and its rivals - say, the BMW 6 series gran coupe and the Merc CLS.

A four-door A5 might be easier to move on than an A7. The road tax situation in Ireland probably steers most diesel car buyers towards two litre (or under) engines.

So, it looks as if a 2.0 TDI A5 four door is what you should aim for. However, it might be a good idea to sound out the views of independent and franchise dealers because an A4 or an A6 might be a safer bet.

The A4 is being replaced by a new model early next year. The A5 is loosely based on the A4 so I would imagine an all new A5 will be available within the next 12 months too. Just saying if resale value is a concern.

Having bought a new A5 1.8T coupe back in 08, I can only imagine the price for the 3.0 tdi quattro, auto, S line is eyewatering and an A7 might be work looking at.
    Is the 2.0 TDI quattro?
If not, the 3.0 is a no brainer. If it is quattro, the choice should be down to what you need from your car.
In my opinion, the 3.0 is certainly the one to have.

As with other car makers, especially German ones, the release of the different A5 body styles will be staggered. It looks as if the new shape A5 sportback will not arrive until 2016:

For performance and perhaps fuel economy, agree with you 100%.

However, OP might have other considerations, such as the cost of taxing and insuring the car and future resale value.

    Well done boards.ie contributors.

It's usually the other way around so that's an improvement :)

As nicer as the 3.0 litre TDi is to the 2.0 TDi there is no way I would be paying €10k more for one.

New A4 will be October earliest, not early next year.

audi.ie going through a change currently so a bit of info falling between cracks waiting for new site. New A7 Ultra is 3.0TDI 218 S-Tronic with 122g but you would need quattro which pushes it up to 133g.

Would you not look at 2 year old A7 OP? A5 interior is just a little old now. Exterior still looks stunning.
