Thought this might be a fun little tangent to the main D'Arcy thread.

If you believe D'Arcy should leave, who would be your ideal replacement?

Poll options are made up of the fill-ins and likely alternatives that came to mind when starting the thread.

Who Would You Replace Ray D'Arcy With? 119 votes

I wouldn't want Ray to leave.

I think a untrained monkey would be just as good as Ray.

I am all for Sean Moncrieff to replace him in the poll.

Out of the poll options, I'd prefer Moncrieff but I'd like to see some new blood brought through the ranks. Maybe Antoin Savage could do a fill-in job for a bit while some new presenters were recruited from elsewhere. Some of the Spin crowd (SW and 103.8) could be given a decent opportunity to breathe some life into that time slot. They might be at the younger end of Today FM's target demographic but they obviously aren't going to get any younger.

The crowd from spin south west?you are joking. Turned it on one day and they were talking about toilet paper.

D'arcy is going nowhere. The fact that his show is so talked about on this forum proves how popular his show is. When was the last time someone posted in the Tubridy thread ?

I haven't listened to SW in a while now because I'm out of range where I live but my point is that some of those younger presenters could be trained up and given a shot at a national show - not primetime at first but some out of the way slot to hone their presenting and then if they show enough promise, moved up the ranks.

Not an overnight solution by any means, more of a long-term plan. Still and all, I find toilet paper more interesting and a lot less annoying than talking about running and making disgusting chewing noises and talking with your mouth full.

If Ray was to be replaced, I think anton savage would be great. He has a good knowledge about most things, can interview both light entertaining or heavy political stuff. Always seems happy and never hear anything about his personal life.

Moncrieff is good but ahhh ahhhh he always ahhhhhh ahhhhh keeps saying ahhhhh ahhhhh. So fecking annoying!!!

This would be my biggest objection to Moncrieff as well. I don't like taking issue with things that are generally beyond a presenter's control but you can train yourself not to "eh...ahh...emmm..." I had to do it for my job so I'm acutely aware of it when I hear it.

Agree- I used listen to Moncrieff years back, I like him but some of the topics are so off the wall I was finding myself wondering why I cared

They're appealing to their demographic with stuff like that. Just take a look at their FB page any time they put up questions about topics like that, it gets a lot of responses because the people listening to SPIN want that sort of stuff.

Disregarding them out of hand just because that's the type of content they do on SPIN is a bit harsh tbh. There's no evidence to suggest they can't do heavier topics, it's just that that's not what they're aiming for on SPIN.

Agreed. Not a hope in hell of him moving under anything other than his own volition. Thread's just a bit of fun really. :)

I would replace him with a tumble dryer. That makes a nice humming noise very relaxing and more entertaining than the sound Ray makes.I find his tone and the type of things he talks about soul destroying. They always play his show in Smyths and I had to walk around one day shopping with him in the back ground.

If I had a list of people that I would like to see in front of a firing squad ray would be top of the list.
However if he had to be replaced I would be happy to see him being replaced by Bertie Ahern

Why would anybody replace him? The show is successful.

You want to parachute somebody into the slot that Ray and co. have built up over the years. If he wants to leave then fine, if the listernship suffers a dramatic decrease then fine.

What's the obsession with kicking people?

Yes, this is only a bit of fun but it only adds to the obsession with wanting to see relativley successful people being taken down a peg or 2.

He has never been successful on radio so why rehire him again. That would make no sense.
