Au Pair

I'm looking for advice on becoming an au pair in Germany or Austria from someone who has any experience with it. I speak German well, I'll be 18 in April and I'm in leaving cert now. I should have a full driving licence too in the next few months. I would just like to work for a year before i start at college and learn to speak the language fluently. I'm good with kids and have done plenty of babysitting for family and neighbours so I'm fine for that.
I've made a profile on some au pair sites and have gotten some offers but unfortunately there isn't much information anywhere on what the daily life is actually like and what to expect from the hosts etc. Can anybody help please?
