Broadband, eircom

I'm hoping someone can help, we got a new landline in a couple of weeks ago, service engineer says our line goes to a cabinet less that a kilometer away that has fiber so we are prime candidates for it, when eircom test our line it says failed to prequalify, meaning we cannot get broadband (any), we had no dial tone thought it was the line but turns out it was a socket on the wall, second service engineer says same as first, all our neighbours have it and our line is green ,he says all we need to do is connect our line to a port in the cabinet, but he is not authorised to do it. Eircom after a ridiculous amount of calls just say your line won't hold any broadband, service engineer says they are checking regular broadband and we are to far away from the nearest exchange for that, feel sick with the stress of it, hope someone can HELP!!!!! TIA

Most likely it hasnt been prequalled yet as its a new line and the tests are only done periodically. Give it two months and call again, you should be able to order then.

I have cancled the line this evening, we only got it to be able to get the broadband, do you know of the line can be perqualled if it is inactive??
    Thank you for your help!!

Nope, you can't run a prequal on a line that's not active.
Can you check this map to see if you're in an area that's currently enabled?
    http://www.eircom.net/efibreinfo/map/

Lines can be added to Eircom Wholesales "Overnight Testing" list (which, funnily enough, takes 24-48hrs) to have a prequal run. It's pretty hard to determine straight off if new lines can hold broadband or not. In most cases, if it looks like it's going to be any bit of work for whomever you're speaking to in Eircom, it probably won't be addressed. :p

    Just my 2c.

My query is similar to the one that started this thread and would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.
eircom landline installed at the beginning of December. A week later was told that its not able to carry broadband. Eircom attitude seems to be shrug shoulders and be grateful you have a landline. Any number of reasons why no broadband from eircom. the most recent said the exchange was not enabled. However I am sending this via the same exchange. Just over a mile from our new house.
Another rep said that neighbours all had broadband and were on split/ paired lines. I thought bb wasn't possible on split lines.
Someone even whispered that it was who you know. The internet is integral to our lives now. Use skype a lot for work and family who are all in UK.
I live in SW Donegal has anyone used satellite or the fixed wireless Blue box. Reviews of the latter are not exactly positive, neither are ones relating to satellite broadband much better.
Eircom seems to be happy to tell the world about efibre and every other advert on Sky tells of mega speeds etc. Me I would just like a basic broadband that might max at 3mgb now. They won't even discuss it. One rep said have faith! There hasn't even been a suggestion of when it might be possible!

    The reasons would be:
Carrier/pair gain line. Incompatible for dsl.
Longer loop. Over 6km you can be too far for dsl, dial up only.
You are fed from a phone only RSU and don't know it. You sure its definitely the exchange you think it is?
