Some Advice on a Failed NCT

    Hey Guys,

Neither a poster on this forum nor a lurker but if you dont mind Id love a bit of advice. Ive found nothing through google that helps.

I drive a Mazda 6 2002 1.8 with 144k on the clock. It has recently been burning oil. Im putting in a few litres of oil in every few hundred miles. Im also not getting very much distance for my petrol. About 25 cent a mile.

So today the crapwagon failed the NCT on emissions.

    CO 1.37 vol %
    HC 86ppm

Ive booked it in to a place in Ballymount on Monday but im not hopeful. If its over 1k to fix im thinking of getting rid. With a bogey engine and a failed NCT would anyone even buy it?

    Cheers
    R

surely a car of that mileage and age within the high tax bracket would be be just worth sending to the scrap yard especially burning oil and failed nct..

This one is 2003, 1 owner 96,000 miles and nct till Jan 15.. you would buy it for €1500 and get €200 scrap for your own or keep it till the test and use it for parts then scrap.?

No easy fix for oil burning, best to advertise for sale as it is describing it as it is or scrap it.

first Buy Dipthane and run with that for week or so
Day before test go for burn on the motor way lowest gears highest RPM blow the crud out .
Then remove oil surplus in the engine better still change oil and only fill to minim mark
Then day of test start engine for two hours before the test . Let it tick over for one hour .Then drive route to Test in low gears high RPM get engine hot as possible
make sure you got both car keys with you park car in test center leave engine running
Go into reception hand in second set of keys for mechanic
go back wait in car when you see the Mechanic come to collect your car switch off and exit car and let NCT mechanic take it
They often take 20 minutes to check car so it will cool down a bit on 20 minutes but the heat you built up should help
They do test and car squeaks past your good to go for another year or two .Then flog the heap to the next sucker you can find with just passed NCT . Worked for me many times when I got oil leak problems SEP it somebody else's problem

If that doesnt work probably best to sell it with no NCT failed .
if it does fail badly I might buy it from you and run it for few months until it wont work no more then sell it for scrap as its often not worth fixxing these things .These types of Oil leaks are often very expensive to fix properly

There are few other tricks mechanics know like use diesel car lubrication as its thicker and will burn less oil and there are some chemicals there that will plug oil leaks for few days to pass tests .

If that doesn't work there are other tricks like special petrol that burns supper clean and add some extra chemicals that will burn up the excess oil and pass the tests

lots of ways to skin a cat and pass a sick car through the NCT

However of you want to keep the heap after the NCT test sort the leak as the CAT will clog up from the unburnt oil and your gonna need a new cat > Also the leak can mean the big ends get starved of oil and then the big end goes at some low milage like 150,ooo miles . Iseen this many times car leaks at 100,000 miles and leak get worse .Owner neglects to top up loil every time and car engine big ends go at 150,000 miles . If you ever forgot to top up and oil went low this engine is probably gonna go south soon

I know for a fact that the oil control ring in fords mostly the focus are known to break in the engine & let oil into the combustion part of the engine Hench burning oil caused by putting the foot down on a cold engine always let a engine heat up before revving the engine hard.

if its burning oil nothing will fix it defo not fuel treatments, its new rings maybe liners or nothing and at a rate of few liter oil to few hun miles is serious along with reduced fuel consumption
leaving the car idle while going inside the test center will do away all the good driving in a low gear done on the way

    op scrap it

You're a mod on the paranormal forum, can they not help you over there? Perhaps a force could take possession of the test machines while your car is going through so as to deliver a favourable outcome.

I knew one guy who while who stopped outside the NCT center drained most the oil from car leaving nearly no oil left in engine with a pump gismos he had rigged up for the day . He cut the info from the oil pressure light and so forth easy to do on older car tricky with new cars with so many sensors . He had bought from the USA some sort of chemical additive to add to the oil that protects engine when engine run out of oil for short periods .SO then he took car into NCT with nearly no oil in it and took a chance the NCT would not run engine too long .The lack of any oil in the engine to burn and it passed .
He learned that trick while working as mechanic in the UK where they got chemical tricks to pass nearly the most sickest cars on the planet if you know what you do . Many NCT centers in Europe especially Germany and Spain (been there done that ) the first thing they always check is the dip stick and cars often fail if dip stick is too low . Low oil it means its probably hiding a high oil burn rate . They wont even do the emissions test automatic fail until the car returns back for retest with correct oil levels . In ROI never heard of dip stick checks .
I know the Mazda engine is the mechanics favorite for running with little or no oil for NCT tests it seems to not mind to run with ultra low oil levels accept the big ends will show it later on

Thats great lads. Thanks for all the advice. Yeah I was just hoping to keep it and squeeze a few more months out of it. Much appreciated.

So I have decided to get rid. If anyone wants it let me know. What is the going rate for something like this? Still drives fine :D. Couple of hundred?

From looking at cars online it could even be described as "will fly through NCT".

Indeed, checking the oil level is part of the emissions tests on both petrol and diesel cars. They're not allowed to do the emissions tests if the oil levels are too low or high. And don't they also take out the dipstick to put in the oil temp probe.

All mazda 6's burn oil, I've a 2007 one and keep topping up the oil it has 120k miles on the clock. Unlike yours I get 37-44 mpg out of it averaging 18 cent/mile :) Do you service yours regularly?
